Asset Tags and Groups

Tag, group, and map every entity in one place

Nexus is one classification layer across every resource type. Tags describe what something is, groups decide who can reach it, and folders organize it. You get a single taxonomy, lightweight groups that do not require standing up a full organization, and structure kept in step with the external systems you already run. A group can be promoted to a full organization when governance needs to grow.

Every tool tags things its own way, and a tag rarely controls anything. Nexus gives the platform one taxonomy across every resource type: tags that classify and target policy, groups that decide who can reach what, folders that organize, and structure kept in step with the external systems you already run.

  • Key-value tags for cross-domain filtering and policy targeting
  • Groups with dynamic, filter-based membership and full sharing support
  • Structure connectors that map external platform data through Meld with ordered mapping rules
  • Folder hierarchy for navigating grouped entities visually
  • Promote a group to a full organization when governance demands it

What you get

What Nexus gives your team.

1

Governed tags

Organization-defined key-value tags with inheritance, allowed-value lists and elevated authority for governed keys.

2

Auto-tagging rules

Bind a saved view to a tag so every matching item is tagged on a schedule, with a live preview before saving.

3

Dynamic and static groups

Collections of any item with static, dynamic or hybrid membership, browsable as a tree; only static membership grants access.

4

Promote to organization

Convert a lightweight group into a full organization in place, keeping its identity, members and ownership.

5

Folders and saved views

Permission-bearing folders with per-folder share modes, and shareable versioned filters reused across groups and policies.

6

Structure sync

Map machine groups, tenants and sites from the tools you run into groups on a schedule, without ever deleting a group.

How it works

  1. 1

    Define the tag vocabulary

Register tag keys, constrain values to an allowed set, and mark a key governed so only permitted values apply and applying it needs elevated authority.

  2. 2

Tag by hand or by rule

Tag from any resource list, in bulk across a selection, or bind a saved view to a tag so matches are tagged on a schedule, previewed live first.

  3. 3

    Group what belongs together

Build groups with static, dynamic or hybrid membership and browse them as a tree. Only static membership grants access; promote a group to an organization later.

  4. 4

    Target and review

Use tags and saved views in policies, budgets and AI pool selection, and review adoption on the coverage dashboard and Tag Explorer.

Ask AI about Nexus

Every Nexus page has an Ask AI button. It opens a chat that already has the page, its rows, and your selection. Try asking:

  • Which groups on this page use dynamic membership, and how many members does each have?
  • Which groups shown here have no location set?
  • Which tags in the Tag Explorer are applied to the most items?

How teams use it

  • Tag every device and resource once, then target policies and budgets by tag.
  • Stand up a customer or site group without creating a full organization.
  • Mirror your RMM or directory structure into groups automatically.
